Vacation Bible School 2015
CONQUERING CHALLENGES
In the church sanctuary, Mount Everest and the Himalayan Mountains towered above us, reminding us of the challenges life can hold. Challenges that can be conquered with GOD’S MIGHTY POWER!! That was the theme of our Vacation Bible School – EVEREST – “Conquering Challenges with God’s Mighty Power!” On Monday, our Bible story was about Elijah and how God provided food and water for him. 2 Corinthians 9: 8 - “And God will generously provide all you need.” Our Bible Buddy was Klymer, a snow leopard. He helped us remember that: GOD HAS THE POWER TO PROVIDE! HOLD ON! It may not be what we want, but what we need. On Tuesday, the Bible story was once again about a very scared Elijah and how he learned that God would comfort him. “He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others.” 2 Corinthians 1:4. Our Bible Buddy was Cliff, a marmot, which burrows into the mountains. He helped us remember that: GOD HAS THE POWER TO COMFORT! HOLD ON! Wednesday’s Bible lesson was about a man named Naaman, who suffered with leprosy. He learned that God had the power to heal. “He heals the broken hearted and bandages their wounds.” Psalm 147: 3. Mallory was our Bible Buddy. She was a bar-headed goose, and she helped us remember that: GOD HAS THE POWER TO HEAL! HOLD ON! We had two Bible lessons on Thursday. The Bible story was about Jesus dying on the cross to take away our sins. Because he died for us, God will love us forever, and one day we will live in heaven with him. Nehemiah 9: 17- “You are a God of forgiveness,” and John 3: 15 - “Everyone who believes in Him will have eternal life.” We even met Peter, one of God’s disciples!! Three times he had betrayed his best friend, Jesus, and was hiding in our room! He was so sad and afraid that Jesus would never forgive him. We helped him see that Jesus would forgive him and love him forever. Our last two Bible Buddies were Pike, a markhor, a big mountain goat, and Yeddy, a Himalayan brown bear. They helped us remember that: GOD HAS THE POWER TO FORGIVE AND LOVE US FOREVER!! HOLD ON! It was a fun filled week with the inspiring Bible stories, awesome crafts, delicious snacks, incredible songs, and cool games!! With our daily offering, we were excited to help the people of Nepal, whose lives were turned upside down after an earthquake in April. We raised $206.00 during the week, and together with the offering from our program on Friday night, we raised $768.00 to send to the Nepal Disaster Relief program through Lutheran Relief. All of the money will go directly to the people to help them rebuild their lives. We would like to thank all who helped to make our VBS a success! ALWAYS REMEMBER: GOD HAS THE POWER TO PROVIDE, COMFORT, HEAL, FORGIVE, AND LOVE US FOREVER. HOLD ON!!! We all face challenges, big and small, but if we HOLD ON to our God, He will always be there with us. |
WOW (worship on Wednesday) for kids
Wow is our Christian Education program for kids preschool through 5th grade. We meet on Wednesday nights at 6:00pm. Come and join the fun!
The children learn about the love of God and how they can spread that love. They do service projects throughout the year to show the love of God. Last year they supported collected pop tabs for Ronald McDonald Houses, had a food drive for the local food banks, and had a clean up the town day. We also have a sponsored child, Erika, through Oaxaca Streetchildren Grassroots program. http://www.oaxacastreetchildrengrassroots.org/ We provide funding so she can attend school. The money helps her to purchase a school uniform, shoes, school supplies, tuition and meals. We have supported her since 2008 and plan to continue that support until she completes her education. |
Women of the ELCA (WELCA)
They also quilt during the months of January - March. Each year they make over 100 large quilts they also make baby quilts and baby afghans. The quilts are donated to local groups and organizations as well as given to our elderly who go to a nursing home, our high school graduates and those baptized in our church.
Once a year in December the ladies have a Christmas Bucket of cookies sale and breakfast. They serve breakfast and have homemade cookies for sale to the public. The funds raised go to support their projects and missions.
The ladies serve for fellowship following early services, prepare Holy Communion, provide flowers, do the bulletin board. Thank you to all you do all year long.
